Goodbye to #2020

Wow. I literally have no words, and that’s bad since this is a blog. 2020 has been a dumpster fire thrown into another dumpster, lit on fire and then thrown into a pit of lava. I, for one, will be glad to celebrate the end of 2020 and start 2021. Like many people, 2020 has been a real struggle, mentally more than physically. To me, it’s been both. To catch a glimpse into my life I have had to say goodbye to my aunt, nana and my grandma in-law. I have had to deal with a family cancer diagnosis, a dog ACL surgery and rehabilitation, cancelled trips and running races and if it couldn’t get worse, I got hit by a car while riding my bike, having to learn to walk again. To say I am ready to get this fucking year done, is such an understatement.

How will I do this? What if 2021 isn't any better?

Well, on December 31st, I am going to participate in my first 5K since my accident, the first time I will run without stopping and the first time I will run more than 1 mile. My goal is to complete it. That’s it. I am not putting a time on it and I am not putting the pressure to place in the top 10. I just want to complete it, without stopping. This will put me in the mindset that no matter the dumpster fire, inside another dumpster fire inside a pit of lava, I can do it…WE can do it; no matter what. And that is what 2021 is going to be…the year that we do it. The year that we have overcame our struggles to make us so fucking strong and so determined. 2020 has prepared us to taste sweet success in 2021 (even if it is just half the dumpster fire that 2020 was).

My challenge for you today is to celebrate (distantly) 2020 however way makes sense to you. Celebrate that you came out of this year stronger than you ever could be, smarter than you thought and more determined.
